Why Discord?

During the 2020 pandemic, we wanted an accessible way for people to remain as part of the writing community from their own homes. Discord also made writing events so much more accessible, so we chose to simply add in-person meetups on top of our online schedule, and we’ve been operating this way ever since.

How do I join Discord?

  1. Once ready, Download Discord.
  2. When Discord is downloaded and open, go here. This is an invite link that will add the Server to your discord. After clicking, you will get the following pop up:
  1. Click Accept Invite.
  2. Once inside, you will be asked to read and accept the rules.
  1. To accept, click the dropdown at the very bottom of the page, and select as shown below.
  1. Once inside, you will have access to all of the channels. It can feel intimidating! But take your time to get to know each channel and their uses. I’ve highlighted the few we believe would be the best to start with.
  1. The roles channel allows you to add the following tags to your profile:
    • Pronouns
    • Your country of origin/residence (or both)
    • The genres you write
    • Plenty more! Take a moment to read through and select the tags you’d like to be part of. This will ensure you get the notifications best suited to you. You’re also free to remove these at any time.
  2. Check out our announcements channel to keep up to date with all our goings on. We update the calendar every Monday.
  3. Finally, please introduce yourself in the introductions channel! We’d love to know your name, where your’re from, and what you’re writing. Can’t wait to meet you!

Use Discord?

Discord works a lot like an online forum. When you enter, you will be confronted with a similar image to this:

This can feel intimidating, but you’ll get your bearings soon enough after a bit of exploration. If you need any assistance with any particular aspect of Discord, please feel free to contact us using the Contact Us form, or if already in the server send a message to @Pantheon or to any of the Admin members (our names are highlighted in pink). We’re here to help.

Upon joining, we recommend checking out the roles channel then jumping into introductions to say hello!

Join an Event?

To join an online event simply click on any voice channel. We usually host events in the Events Room.

Upon joining, you will have the option to turn on your camera and unmute, but it isn’t required. Feel free to come along and lurk, use the chat as a podcast, or our presence as encouragement. How you use the server is entirely up to you.

Outside of events, feel free to use the Writing Room. Many members enjoy jumping in for a ‘Rogue Write-In’ when they have words to finish.
